CENTER OF INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION LIBRARIES (NID)

The libraries at FURG, available to students and professors of the Program, are found in a system called Center of Information and Documentation linked to the Pro-Rectory of Undergraduate Studies (PROGRAD). They consist of a central library, located at the Carreiros Campus and five sectorial libraries, located at the other campuses of FURG.

Libraries:

1) Central Library Dr. Hugo Dantas da Silveira – Carreiros Campus

The Central Library has an area of 1. 432.08 m², distributed in a large reading room with 35 (thirty-five) tables for 6 (six), a room for the collection of books, journals, and reference materials, 6 (six) study rooms in groups with tables for 4 (four), 10 (ten) individual study booths, a room with a Braille collection, a service desk, reference sector, toilets, 125 (one hundred and twenty-five) lockers, and administrative area composed of management room, technical processing room of books and COMUT, technical processing room of journals and exchange, reference sector room, secretariat, and document restoration room.

2) City Campus Library

It covers an area of 482.26 m², distributed in a reading room, space for the collection, a service desk, joint administration room shared with a room for the Food Engineering Graduate collection, concierge, and room with the Federal Official Gazette. It also offers bibliographic support to the courses developed in the Industrial Technical College (CTI), Food Engineering and Science (Undergraduate and Graduate levels) and Chemical Engineering.

3) Sectorial Library of the Graduate Program in Oceanography

The Library of the Graduate Program in Oceanography was created in 1992, with a physical space of 116.64 m², with the main objective of attending the Program’s Master’s and Doctoral Degrees. It also serves users of Environmental Education, Ocean Engineering, Food Engineering and Physiological Sciences, and researchers linked to the Train-Sea-Coast (UNESCO-FURG-CIRM), REVIZEE Program and Antarctic Research.

4) Academic Area Sectorial Library Dr. Newton Azevedo Health

This sector is linked with the Teaching Hospital (HU), with its area of operation focused on medical and nursing courses. It serves the academic community, graduates, masters, doctors and residents, in their bibliographic and information needs, supporting the courses taught, stimulating the self-development of users and scientific research in the health area.

5) Sectorial Library of the Oceanographic Museum Prof. Eliezer de Carvalho Rios

This sectorial library is inserted in the Oceanographic Museum, with an area of 33.75 m², a rich collection of malacology and other areas of knowledge, making it available for local consultation in the library.

6) Sectorial Library of the Graduate Program in Environmental Education – Green Room Judith Cortesão

Library located in a room of 25.8 m² inside the Living Center of FURG (Campus Carreiros) serving the entire academic community, but especially focused on the Environmental Education Master’s and Doctoral Degrees, which is part of the Center for Information and Documentation since July 2006. It has a rich collection donated by Dr. Judith Cortesão and the Ministry of Environment, covering the most diverse areas of knowledge, with emphasis on ecology and environment.
